Accipiter nisus (I think)

This fine fella of a Sparrowhawk arrived in our back garden on Sunday morning and hung around sunning himself while the usually noisy sparrow family kept a very low profile!

  1. now that’s just cool…..I’d a (poor quality) video of one eating a pigeon outside my study window in Lucan with the feathers flying all round the place. Birds of prey often remind me of ‘The Windhover’ by Gerard Manley Hopkins
‘I CAUGHT this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding’

  2. Fabulous photos. A sparrowhawk drove a woodpigeon right into our kitchen window one afternoon and then did its disembowelling at leisure, much to the delight of my then 4 year old son…
